{Real Party} APLU Spouses Planning Meeting

Recently, we were given the opportunity to welcome several Chancellor and President Spouses from universities across the country for a few days on the LSU campus. The main purpose was for the group to meet to plan their big conference in the Fall, but I took it as an opportunity to have some fun!

Unfortunately, I was running around so much I wasn't able to get a ton of photos. Even more unfortunately, the ones below were taken with my phone and they are pretty crummy! Despite all of that...I'm going to share them anyway! Enjoy!

These fun little baskets welcomed each guest as they checked into their hotel room.

The group enjoyed lunch at the Rural Life Museum.
The tables were set with vintage china and silver...it felt like you were going back in time! I just loved it!

A close up of the place cards and menu cards printed on ivory card stock. Drake's Catering did a fabulous job with the food!

They also enjoyed dinner at the LSU Museum of Art. The centerpieces from Billy Heroman's Flowerland were gorgeous white arrangements in paint tins with paints and brushes scattered around the table.

The best part of the trip was the other attending event coordinators. It was so great to brainstorm and chat with them about various event details! Gotta love networking!

{Cricut Creations} Shower Hostess Gifts

Last weekend, my husband and I were showered with gifts by his family and our Baton Rouge friends. I'd share pictures but the only ones that my husband took were pretty unflattering...so sorry! I wanted to get all of the 13 hostesses something personalized and special so...I got the Cricut out and got to work!

Of course, I had to match the gift wrapping to the colors of the shower! So hot pink and lime green it was!

LSU and City Year Lunch Celebration

Yesterday, Louisiana State University celebrated its partnership with City Year. This very exciting venture was cheered on by those in the LSU and Baton Rouge community during a presentation at Memorial Tower and then honored again at a small lunch at the Faculty Club.

The press release shares more information about the partnership, if you are interested!

I was asked to provide the menu and place cards for the lunch. So, I threw together the following:

These pictures were taken with my phone...so bear with me!

How delicious does that salad look!

Just a simple place card on ivory cardstock.

The menu card was also on simple ivory cardstock.

Just wanted to share!
Hope you are all having a great Thursday!

{Bliss Board} Artistic Dinner

Next month, I'm doing a dinner at the fabulous LSU Museum of Art. When I toured the facility to get an idea of the dinner space, I couldn't help but be amazed by the GIANT Blue Dog that covered an entire wall. Being personally obsessed with George Rodrigue and all his dynamic Blue Dog paintings...I let my imagination run wild when thinking of decor for the dinner.

For those not familiar with Blue Dog, here is an example:

Who wouldn't be inspired by that face!

I want to highlight the primary colors and the fact that we are in a museum so artistic flares everywhere! From old paint tins as centerpieces, the menu displayed on an artist's canvas and passed appetizers served on paint palettes...I can't wait to see this dinner come to life!

My love for GREEN

Green is probably one of my favorite colors...so obviously, I love St. Patrick's Day!

We are celebrating both St. Patty's Day and my husband's birthday with a small brunch before the big Baton Rouge St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday.

Although I promised not to do anything too "cutesy"...of course, I'll have some fun details to show off!

Until then, enjoy some of these fabulous green details that I just LOVE...

The Cinderella Project Drop-off Opportunity

Do you have bridesmaid's dresses or formals starting to collect dust?
Free up some of your closet space and donate those gowns to The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge!

My prom was more than a few moons ago...but I can still remember how pricey getting ready for it can be. Each girl wants the perfect dress, shoes and accessories...so, The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge helps high school students in financial need find just that!

This Sunday-Tuesday (March 13-15, 2011), Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers makes it a little easier to donate. You can drop off your donation at any of the 14 participating Baton Rouge area Raising Cane's AND you can receive a free 21-ounce lemonade. (Find out which locations here.)

When selecting gowns to donate they must fall within these guidelines:

Prom dresses MUST be age-appropriate and suitable for a high school student to wear to a spring formal.
Dresses MUST be in style and in excellent condition.
Dresses MUST be prom dresses, formal gowns or fancy party dresses (long or short).
Prom dresses MUST be on hangers and dry-cleaned.

Also, they will not accept:

Dresses that have long sleeves, matching jackets or are mother-of-the-bride ensembles
Dresses made with velvet
Two-piece bridesmaids dresses
Garments that are faded, torn or stained
Garments that out of style (more than 5 years old)
Garments that have not been dry-cleaned

There are tons of ways to get involved with this organization! To learn more, please visit their website.

{Bliss Board} Read Across America Day

Each March 2nd,  the National Education Association celebrates "Read Across America" Day in honor of everyone's favorite children's author, Dr. Seuss. Thousands of schools celebrate and encourage reading by inviting community members into their classrooms to read to the students. Some even dress up as Dr. Seuss characters and eat actual green eggs and ham! What fun!

I'll be heading to a local elementary school this afternoon to read my favorite Dr. Seuss book but as I was perusing the Internet this morning to see how others were celebrating, I ran across several Dr. Seuss themed parties! So adorable...so I threw together a Bliss Board to help you celebrate today in style!

Even if you aren't throwing a big shindig today, you can still get involved! Visit the Read Across America Pledge Site and make a pledge to encourage young students to read TODAY!
